WALKABOUT SKETCHING GROUP at Kinghorn Loch
27/02/2025
A most enjoyable morning at Kinghorn Loch and the Ecology Centre
After our first Sketching Group of 2025 in January in the lovely warm space of the Carnegie Library & Gallery in Dunfermline, our Sketching Group were out and about this Thursday on a cold and frosty morning with a group of 10 artists trying their very best to find some inspiration trudging around in layers of thermal underwear, warm jumpers & fleece-lined trousers!
Quite a slow start for some who just about managed to get to the Ecology Centre more or less on time (sorry) being put to shame by much more serious en plein air artists who turned up at the crack of dawn or rather at the set time of 9.30 am (you know who you are). However, there was a warm welcome and a lot of interest in our group by the Centre’s Staff, in particular the lovely South African lady who promised to save us seats inside the Nest Cafe for our coffee break which was great. After that the sunshine was warmer, as forecast and the views embellished with both brilliant light and darker shadows. The wildlife, of course, was abundant and everywhere you looked. We had ducks at our feet waiting for crumbs in the cafe garden, overhead gabbling geese flying in to settle on the loch with a splash and reportedly, one grouchy swan who tried to grab someone’s art materials - cheek! I think we all managed to produce some worthy sketches and some photos of our morning out. Happy days.
