DRAWING AND PAINTING SUMMER CLASSES

DBAC Drawing & Painting Summer Classes with Clare Russell
The drop-in classes ran for seven weeks during July and August and were well attended, even though people were also busy with holidays and covid.
Most students wanted to work on portraits from photos so this is what we tackled. We started off the first week with drawing using charcoal. After that, we dived into using pastels, acrylic and watercolour.

P.S. Sometimes the end of the classes were so busy that Clare didn’t manage to take a photo of everyone’s work. Sorry for that. If you have an artwork you completed on the course please send a photo in to Barbara Wade to add to this page.
The aim throughout was to work boldly by putting in strong tones and large marks first and then refining these using observation and modification. This was in contrast to the usual way of working for many students which was to do a careful line drawing and then fill it in. It took some bravery to change to this new method but it resulted in some tremendously interesting work and there may even have been a few converts in the end.

Here is just some of the work produced in these classes. We hope you enjoy seeing what we produced! To see our Gallery please key [781355] doesn't existDrawing & Painting. Once in Gallery just click on any picture.
